Sculpture
Fest is an exhibition of outdoor sculpture in Woodstock, Vermont.
Originally
the exhibition was held on Peter & Charlet Davenport's
land in Woodstock, Vermont as a way to raise funds for the
Vermont Council of the Arts while Charlet was on the board
of Directors. Sculpture Fest has evolved over the last twelve
years. It has become an independent entity, continuing because
the artists and the community look forward to the event.
In
some instances, it is an opportunity for artists to learn
from each other, to network for galley shows and exhibitions
and occasionally to sell or begin a commission.
Because
we believe the land really belongs to all of us in the long
run, this event has become one way to open a small and special
area of the land. It is a place where one can enjoy the art
, think about the issues raised by some of the artists, walk,
take a break, meditate in special spots such as Hector Santos'
Earth's Crust, or bring children on an outing.
Sculpturefest
has a new format this year. In order to invite people to view
sculpture which is permanently on the land for a longer period
of time. Our first-phase opening was on Sunday, August
19th. The opening reception launched the first section
of Sculpturefest 2001 - featuring four artists: Hector Santos,
Kristen Judkins, Joe Fichter and Steve Schaum.
The second
phase of Sculpturefest 2001 opened on Saturday, September
15th with the work of artists on the theme of steel, stone
wood and water. There are now twenty permanent works on SF
land so visiting the area anytime is encouraged.
Visitors can
view the current exhibition through foliage season. For further info call
