Tree Line Spirit
As a teacher of art, I found it important to develop projects with
my students
that had a cross-cultural theme. I am intrigued with the "cultural
lamination"
of work form the African and the Native American cultures. Both
use carved,
painted and decorated wood to represent the spirit world. They both
use
geometric shapes and organic colorations. I enjoy daily hikes in
our woods with
my dogs and am always fascinated with the linear quality of trees
and the play
of negative and positive spaces that are created by these lines-
as if they are
involved in a spiritual dance. Thus, I have been led to make these.
