Dennis
Grady has been an exhibiting artist since 1973.
The
piece shown here, "Settler's Scope (Dedicated to the
Abenaki Nation)" first appeared at Sculpturefest in 1993.
It was invited back in 1999 because of its appropriateness
to that year's theme of "stewardship of the land."
Constructed
of painted PVC pipe, brass chain, fittings, and ortho film,
the scope is suspended from a tree branch. To view the landscape
through the scope, the viewer must peer through the words
"occupied territory."
Grady's
photo/video/sound installations have been shown recently at
The Main Street Museum of Art in White River Junction, Vermont;
AS220 Gallery in Providence; and The University of Rhode Island
Fine Arts Center in Kingston. His contribution to this year's
Sculpturefest is this web site.
His
work as an artist and as a web site designer can be seen at
