Most of my professional life has been spent doing environmental research-ecology
of aquatic insects, effects of acid rain, and lately, clean-up of
military toxins. It is a creative pursuit, not unlike the art and
music that I do as time permits. I can't pass up the opportunity to
experiment with new materials-the tractor-trailer roofing used for
this exhibition. I have occassionally taken lots of time for music-touring
in Europe and US for several years. This time around, sculpture has
pulled me into larger projects, like the ones displayed here at SculptureFest.
I like to create very simple forms, then give them titles that refer
to immensely complex themes like mythological archetypes or biological
processes. It is my gentle reminder that our species seeks meaning
wherever it can find it. I have several working hypotheses for next
summer's pieces. |
